Chinese Troops Amdo Ngaba, Tibet
Since the popular - and predominantly peaceful uprising against Chinese rule in Tibet rippled across Tibet beginning in March, the Chinese govrenment deployed enormous numbers of Chinese troops and paramilitary police in Lhasa and throughout eastern areas of Tibet that were epicenters of resistance. Theses photos received just days before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games show a build-up of troops in Ngaba, Amdo, Eastern Tibet. In Nagaba, monks from Kirti monastery, along with thousands of laypeople, led mass demonstrations calling for freedom and human rights. The protests have been brutally suppressed.
